Naruto Shippuden 4th Movie – The Lost Tower

Review of the the Anime Movie, with spoilers (so be warned).

naruto movie 01a A lot of Naruto fans probably got too excited when they found out that the movie would feature the 4th Hokage and a young Kakashi, as seen on the trailer. I’m sure I was.

Was all the excitement justified? Read on.

<again, spoiler alert>
The movie starts off with Team 7 (Naruto, Sakura, Sai led by Yamato) on a mission (as per alliance with the hidden village of the Sand) to thwart the plans of a rogue puppeteer ninja. The rogue ninja was after a natural and powerful chakra source that was sealed by the 4th Hokage. During the fight, the puppeteer successfully removed (absorbed) the seal unleashing the chakra source but not without taking with him Naruto and Yamato into the engulfing chakra flow.

The three were actually taken back in time but not together. The rogue ninja being the very first one to have been consumed by the chakra flow got back a few years earlier than Naruto and Yamato.

Sent back in time, Naruto meets a princess that becomes his unwilling charge to protect. He also meets three other Anbu ninjas, lead by (unknowingly for Naruto) his father. Surprisingly, Minato is aware that Naruto is a time-traveler as they’ve already met the rogue ninja several years before. As such, their interaction with Naruto is kept to a minimum – at least as they intended to.

Naruto and the current Konoha ninjas battle the evil puppeteer who has become really powerful, thanks to the natural chakra source that he was able to harness.

We also see the young Kakashi get some involvement with the mission. And, Yamato wouldn’t appear again until much later in the movie.

By the way, the movie happens before Naruto got the training for the Sage Mode so don’t expect him to do the cool moves he does as Sage.

The movie is actually good with a lot of exciting fight scenes, although i wished they could have a better plot. The story is typical and quite honestly, redundant.

The main selling point of this movie would be the appearance of Minato and the young Kakashi. However, we don’t really get to see much of Minato that made him such an great ninja. The young Kakashi’s role and involvment in the movie is even smaller. Darn.

The movie also wouldn’t affect the Manga/Anime’s main plot. You’ll see why, by the end of the movie.

This movie is still a must for Naruto fans. I certainly didn’t miss it.
