Movie Review: Battle Los Angeles

What is a year in the movies without aliens invading, trying to wipe out the human race? It’s a staple in Hollywood nowadays.

imageBattle Los Angeles revolves around a Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz being called into duty right after his resignation letter got signed. His mission was to assist a young 2nd Lt. William Martinez with the evacuation of civilians in L.A. that is currently under siege from an unknown force. And that unknown force is, well you guessed it.. a bunch of super powered aliens that came from nowhere to take over the planet. In just after a few hours, the whole world succumbs into this incursion.

The movie follows along the recent line of Hollywood flicks that probably took it’s strongest root from the 1996 film Independence Day (which i loved). With that, Battle LA doesn’t present anything new from the premise of the story to the style that it was delivered.

Imagine Independence Day meets Band of Brothers, all done with the current graphics and movie styles (i.e. first-person camera view, choppy emergency news reception videos).

Nothing is new. However, it was still SURPRISINGLY entertaining.

It’s actually a good watch to spend some lazy afternoon/evening. Of course, it’s not something that you would talk about for many weeks to come – i don’t think it was intended that way. The movie is just a good way to kill time or to watch something else (while waiting for the blockbusters to arrive).

imageThe major cast here are Aaron Eckhart (Two-face from the recent Batman), Michelle Rodriguez (these kind of movies requires her presence) and Ne-Yo (yes! the singer). Lol.

With regards to the actors, even if the story and characters aren’t new, they gave solid performances. Great job.

If your a fan of aliens invading the planet (like me).. and war-scenes, marine/army-style (me not so much), then go and watch this movie.

You should also watch this if you’re getting too sick of lovie-dovie vampires that glitter like Christmas trees (hehe. yeah, i also watch those).
