a bummed life!

Only a few hours before i start my intended climb to Japan’s highest peak, i was already feeling quite adventurous. And, i also wanted a shower – so, i went searching for the Capsule hotel that i found out about over the internet. Straight from Shinjuku station, i went around (of course with the help of a policeman with a big old map of Shinjuku) and looked for the Shinjuku Kuyakusho-mae Capsule Inn (literally, the Capsule Inn in front of Shinjuku City Building). It was a few minutes walk from the station, albeit a little bit difficult to find but not that challenging.

A trip to Japan as a solo traveller has turned out to be one of the most colourful experiences i have ever had. I have done more travelling, talked to the most number of strangers, experienced the most physically trying activities, done things i have only wished i had before, and used up all my Nihongo in the shortest possible time, than any other time in my life. This is definitely a tale worth spending time to put into words – in the hopes to capture all the emotions and experiences that really cannot be fully described by a written composition. However, let me do my best and start with the very first day.

This is a review of some of the sci-fi/fantasy movies released during the first half of 2013. If it's not yet obvious, i am in love with sci-fi and fantasy movies. Yes, i do love the blockbusters but the internet is already saturated with detailed (even obsessive) reviews so i'm going to skip all of them. For the moment, let's forget about star trek, or marvel or dc (and most every other big-ticket items) and check out some of the ones you might have missed . Who knows maybe you’ll find some of them interesting. This post might give you an idea of what movies to catch up.

Whoa! This movie is just epic.  Everything here is huge (including the number of minutes the movie runs).   It's just awesome to watch these kinds of movies (every now and then), where you feel how small you are.  It gives you a taste of how huge the world around you can become and an idea of the scale of mass destruction.   The movie at its core doesn't really offer much story-wise, even the personalities are stereotypical but who cares! Fan boys are going to watch this because of its Gundam vs Godzilla qualities. They are definitely going to get a lot of that, all in stunning CGI glory. Not to worry though, as there’s a sprinkling of humour here and there for some breathing time. It is definitely a must watch for anyone who loves the mentioned epic battle scenes, those who wants to see grandiose effects and even those who like video games . What a surprise. To start with, i had very little hope in this movie. A movie with only Brad Pitt as the only recognizable face (oh, and that guy from Lost) amongst thousands of computer generated zombies didn’t really sound appealing at all. Plus, it’s another zombie movie. Really, if it isn’t about zombies, it’s about vampires! If Kate Beckinsale is not in that movie, it’s not worth watching. Still, i went on ahead and saw it since some of my friends actually said it was good. And indeed, it was.

Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) Wow! This movie just packs a whopping wow! (of course, being a Star Trek fan i would still have said wow even without seeing it first). I just think this movie is awesome and really worth the watch (and re-watch), but i won’t make a review just to avoid writing a post that would probably sound like a screeching fan girl. Instead, let me just answer a very simple question which i proposed at the very title: Should i watch Star Trek (2013) in 3D or not? I will let the the font size compensate the lack of details to justify my answer: 3D or not? NO. but, you should watch it in iMAX! iMAX or iMAX 3D is fine, so long as it is iMAX. Yes, you heard (or read) it right. You should catch this movie in iMAX but not for the 3D effect. Watch it there because of it’s sheer grandiose.
